Parent Tip Swap Participation Rules

There are certain rules that must be observed when posting advice:

  • Any advice that involves abuse of a child will be deleted, and your account will be immediately revoked.
  • If someone posts advice that you find offensive, but is a personal issue, do not rant against the individual. Here are a few examples:
  • Some parents may spank a child and others are offended by spanking, but a swat to the behind can prevent serious injury. My daughter was climbing up the steps to the second floor, on the wrong side of the banister, and received an immediate swat, resulting in no more dangerous step climbing.

  • I think that washing a kids' mouth out with soap is not the way to go, but using vinegar or raw onion is a pretty good start. Using Tabasco might work on some kids, but my son loves hot sauces and he would probably ask for more. Using hot sauce might appall some folks, but a drop of Tabasco is not going to kill the child. So you can see that there are many ways to address an issue that may strike you as "wrong" personally, but are not harmful to the child.

  • Trolling (posting inflammatory comments throughout many posts) will result in a couple of warnings. If you don't have anything useful to say, then don't say it, otherwise you will be banned for a while.

  • Postings that advertise products are not allowed. This does not mean a person cannot recommend a specific brand of teething product.

  • Please do not post personal information, especially your addresses, phone numbers or children's names. We want to keep our children safe, and there are plenty of crazies out there with Internet connections.
